Dependent Child Visa for Temporary Visas

In case you have a temporary New Zealand visa, the INZ requires your dependent children to satisfy these conditions before considering their Dependent Child Visa application. To begin with, the kids must be single. In addition:
  • If they are below 17 years of age: They must be depending on you and your partner for financial support
  • If they are between the ages of 18 and 20: They must be depending on you and your partner for financial support, and not be a parent

  • If they are between the ages of 18 and 20: They must not be a parent
  • If they are between the ages of 21 and 24: They must be depending on an adult for financial support, and not be a parent
INZ requires dependent children below the age of 16 years to meet their English language fluency qualification criteria.
You children’s qualification for the Dependent Child Visa may also be affected by factors like Refugee Family Support Category, Family Quota, Pacific Access Category and the Samoa Quota Scheme.
If your children were eligible for their Dependent Child Visas at the time you filed for your residence, the INZ might ask you to spell the reasons why you did not include your children on your original application.
Then there are some peculiar situations which disqualify your children from getting their Dependent Child Visas. Even in such cases, they are free to pursue their own independent New Zealand visa applications.
Your dependent children can stay and study in the country forever once their Dependent Child Resident Visas are approved – they may also work if they have attained the age for doing so.
